STEP 01

DISCOVER...a place of contrasts

Whether you are a long-time resident or have newly arrived in the region, discover the fascinating layers of history in this unusual landscape that makes this place so captivating.

West Wendover, situated on the edge of the Bonneville Salt Flats where dark, toothy mountains meet smooth, bright plains has been a fitting stop for travelers. Refuel, recharge and rejuvenate before taking on the next phase of your journey!
As forms of travel have developed, the relics of innovation are woven into this landscape where man and environment interact and shape each other.
Nowhere on earth are the contrasts so dramatic and complimentary as here in this remarkable haven we call West Wendover.
This place is filled with history of adventure from innovative high-speed land craft to historic Wendover Field where efforts of man and machine helped bring an end to World War II.
West Wendover’s location, “where the west begins” marks the beginning of the Cowboy Corridor winding it’s way through the vast and beautiful Nevada desert.
The Americana of road-side diners and truck stops are in sharp contrast to the quiet zen of placid desert panoramas and mountain retreats.
Ramblers and residents alike, wonder at these contrasts; the dark starry night sky against the parched white plains of salt… rough and tumble cowboys gaming in settings of polished glamour…the natural beauty of the Toana range to the west and the colorful lights of Wendover Boulevard to the east.
It is fitting then that the architecture of this special place should reflect its unique history of adventure and innovation.  There is a certain kind of hospitality here to be offered to weary-worn travelers and those seeking experiences, well out of the ordinary.  West Wendover is an oasis that offers shelter and relief from the desert’s contrasting moods of heat, frost, wind, and glare.
It is in the gearing up for the adventure that one contemplates who we are and what has gone before.
West Wendover is full of rich history, which is on display on the Victory Highway Historic Interpretive Walking Trail. This includes the Transcontinental Telephone Line, Western Pacific Railroad, The Victory Highway, Lincoln Highway, Ancient Lake Bonneville, Historic Wendover Field, and more.
